Republicans’ weird online psy-op is back

“Progress 2028,” a progressive-seeming organization secretly run by conservatives, is targeting voters in Wisconsin’s Supreme Court election

The ads could be run by any left-of-center political group. 

“We need a judge who will stand up for immigrants, protect our institutions, and uphold justice,” one reads. “Judge Susan Crawford is a progressive champion—and we’re urging her to boldly proclaim her progressive values in her race for Supreme Court,” says another. 

These ads, run on Facebook and targeted to Wisconsin voters ahead of next month’s critical state supreme court election, are paid for by a little-known group called “Progress 2028.”

Although Progress 2028 looks like a grassroots, progressive advocacy group, it is actually a conservative effort to deceive a particular segment of the electorate. If the organization sounds familiar, it's because the same group ran over $900,000 in digital advertising in the 2024 presidential election against Kamala Harris. Now, it has its sights set on Susan Crawford, the liberal-backed candidate for Supreme Court in Wisconsin…
